February 04/2009
According to Market Report Company, estimated polypropylene consumption in Russia in 2008 went up by 7%, compared to 2007, and moved at 606 kt. Domestic output increased 5% and exceeded 500 kt. Shortage of feedstock in the domestic market did not allow Russian producers to push up exports. At the year-end, exports of domestic polypropylene dropped down to 30.8 kt.

Certainly, the situation changed drastically during the crisis: over the fourth quarter of the year,  consumption

dropped  by 3.5%, compared to the same period in 2007, and the average price, say, in December was at the level of RUB27.500/mt, including VAT, СРТ, Moscow.

PP imports to Russia moved at about 141.2 kt, at the end of 2008. Homo imports moved at 86 kt. About 73% of overall imports belonged to Turkmenbashynsky Refinery, Linos, LyondellBasell and Borealis.
