Russian producers to decrease HDPE output in April

May 18/2011
MOSCOW (MRC) -- In April, Russian producers decreased high-density polyethylene (HDPE) output by 21% compared to March, and it made 62.8 KT, according to MRC ScanPlast. In March HDPE output made 79.7 KT. The record production of HDPE in Russia was in  August 2010 at the level of 84 KT.

The main reason for decline in HDPE output in April was a switchover of Nizhnekamskneftehim to linear polyethylene production.

Insignificant decline in output was also marked at Stavrolen and Gazprom. The only Russian producer to increase HDPE output was Kazanorgsyntez.

Excessive offer of polyethylene in the domestic market as well as high competitiveness force Russian producers to increase export supplies. In April, export shipment of the Russian HDPE (discounting supplies to Belorussia) grew to 9 KT, while in January, it was little more than 2 KT.
