| LyondellBasell
has announced plans to permanently shut its 110,000 t/y LDPE plant at
Fos-sur-Mer / France. Talks with the facility’s 80 employees about “the
most appropriate path forward” are in progress. The plant idled in
mid-March was the group’s smallest unit and as such “no longer
economically viable,” according to Richard Roudeix, LyondellBasell’s
vice president of polyethylene in Europe. | Roudeix said LDPE customers in future will be supplied from the 300,000 t/y plant at Berre / France, which has “superior investment and operational economics.”
