LyondellBasell: LDPE plant in Fos-sur-Mer shut permanently

April 13/2009
LyondellBasell  has announced plans to permanently shut its 110,000 t/y LDPE plant at Fos-sur-Mer / France. Talks with the facility’s 80 employees about “the most appropriate path forward” are in progress. The plant idled in mid-March was the group’s smallest unit and as such “no longer economically viable,” according to Richard Roudeix, LyondellBasell’s vice president of polyethylene in Europe.
Roudeix said LDPE customers in future will be supplied from the 300,000 t/y plant at Berre / France, which has “superior investment and operational economics.”
