New RusVinyl PVC plant in Nizhegorodskaya oblast under construction

NIZHNIY NOVGOROD (RIA Novosti) -- The first steps in construction of the biggest integrated polyvinyl chloride production complex ⌠RusVinyl in Russia are to take place on Monday in Kstov district in Nizhegorodskaya oblast. Launch of the production is scheduled for 2013.



RusVinyl LLC is a joint venture between Russian Sibur holding and Belgian SolVin to build a PVC complex in Nizhegorodskaya oblast. Output caapcity will be 330.000 tpa of polyvinyl chloride and 235.000 tpa of caustic soda. Investments into the project are going to total at about 40 bln. rubles.

According to the decision taken by Nizhegorodskaya Oblast Investement Board as of 2008, the project was granted a priority status; and it was included into the Russian Chemical and Petrochemical Industry 2015 Development Strategy by Russian Trade and Industry Administration.

Sinopec starts new oilfield development in Nigeria

(OilRu) -- China's major China Petroleum & Chemical Corp (Sinopec) has discovered a new oilfield in Nigeria and drilled the first exploratory well in block 137 that had belonged to Switzerland's Addax Petroleum.

Oil encountering in Udele-3 well at Niger delta became the first successful result of Sinopec's activities in Nigeria. The output is at about 3.365 barrels of oil and 28.300 cubic meters of gas a day.

PVC-S imports up 7 times in Russia

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January - May 2010, PVC-S imports in Russia went up over 7 times (to 80,8 kt) compared with same period last year - according to MRC DataScope report.

Strengthening demand on the part of converters was the reason of a serious increase in imports.

In May, PVC-S imports moved at a record level of 27,5 kt. Russian companies increased purchases of imported grades for profile extrusion 30% (to 23,8 kt), comparing with April. Major volumes in the profile sector were imported from China (61%); feedstock from Taiwan and Hungary was imported, as well.

Formosa No. 1 naphta cracker force majeur

(plastemart) -- A fire caused by a possible leakage at a distillation tower has forced a shutdown at Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp's 700,000 tpa naphtha cracker. The fire is currently under control, and there were no fatalities, but it has affected other units in the facility, including a unit that produces pygas. Rectification of the problem could take at least one month.

Formosa's two other crackers are not affected and are still operating at full capacity. However, Formosa will need to re-examine dates of planned maintenance at its No. 2 cracker with a capacity 1.03 mln tpa scheduled from August 20 for 30-40 days.

Major repairs at "Ethylene-Polyethylene" plant commencing

(1news.az) -- Scheduled maintenance at plants being part of Azerkimia and Azerbaijan State Oil Company started. Today, major repairs have started at ⌠Ethylene-Polyethylene plant, and will be carried out at all the plant's units.

The most qualified maintenance crew from Ethylene-Polyethylene, Orgsyntez, Surfactant and Sumgayt Mechanical-Repair Works have been involved into repairs.
