Domestic PVC supply decreased nearly two times in Russia

July 26/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January – May 2009, estimated consumption of unmixed PVC in the Russian market decreased 46%, compared to the same period last year, according to MRC.

PVC-S consumption decreased nearly two times and moved at 204.39 kt. Imports dropped by 92%. Some market players believe resin imports are not profitable due to the high indicative price and 15% import duty.

In May, resin production increased more than two times, compared to April. Saynakkhimplast resumed operations early in May. In April, the company was forced to suspend operations due to big stocks. Sayanskkhimplast produced 20.24 kt of resin in May.

This year, PVC-E consumption decreased 40%, compared to the same period last year. Emulsion exports moved at 4.09 kt, over that period. China is still the most attractive market (62% of overall PVC-E exports).
Emulsion exports decreased 41%, over the course of the first five months of 2009. Vinnolit’s material is still holding the leading position in the market (46% of overall imports).
