In January production of basic polymers in Ukraine exceeded 27,000 tonnes

MOSCOW (MRC) -- In January, production of bulk polymers in Ukraine made 27,331 tonnes, 4% up compared with December 2011. The output of polyvinyl chloride increased, though production of polystyrene and polypropylene decreased, according to MRC ScanPlast.

Last month the capacities utilization of the Ukrainian producer Karpatneftekhim (Lukoil Group) remained at the previous month level. The output of polyethylene in January made 9,374 tonnes. After the force majeure at Stavrolen, Karpatneftekhim had started production of blow molding grades of HDPE. Last month this plant started production of НХВ 5115Н grade. Last year, the total volume of low pressure polyethylene produced by Karpatneftekhim made 102,664 tonnes.

In January, Linik (TNK-BP Group) reduced the volume of polypropylene by almost 200 tonnes. Last month total output of polypropylene made 8,222 tonnes. In February, the company plans to produce more than 9,000 tonnes of the polymer. Last year Linik increased polypropylene output to 93,792 tonnes.

Last month, the Ukrainian producer Stirol reduced production of general purpose polystyrene to 440 tonnes, expanded polystyrene was not produced at all. In December-January, the company produced 22,497 tonnes of polystyrene, which was up by 37% year on year.

In January, the total production of basic polymers in Ukraine made 27,331 tonnes, 38% up year on year. Last month Karpatneftekhim produced 9,295 tonnes of suspension PVC. During last two months, due to the seasonal factors, Ukrainian producer loaded its PVC capacities utilization not more than by 40%. Over less than eight months, Karpatneftekhim produced 83,828 tonnes of suspension PVC.
