MOSCOW (MRC) -- The current year will be the most difficult for the Russian automobile
industry, MRC’s experts believe. The share of sold domestic cars, and
cars produced by foreign companies in the territory of Russia has
nearly equaled.

Following the breath-taking growth of the Russian automobile market
last year, we are observing its collapse now. In the first half of the
year, output of automobiles went down to 340 thous., which was 62%
less, compared to the previous year.
PP consumption in the sector of automobile components is decreasing
proportionally to production of cars. In the first half of the year, PPconsumption in the automobile sector slightly exceeded 16.5 kt, which was 2.6 less, compared to the same period last year. |
Foreign companies that have their own plants in Russia support domestic
producers of automobile components. For example, Kursk Accumulator
Plant was approved to supply its goods to plants of GM and Ford; Fiat
agreed to accept Kursk accumulators at all its plants. Early in May, VW
Rus nominated Autokomponent Group to supply a number of components to
produce Volkswagen Polo. According to Polypropylene in Russia 2009 Report,
Autokomponent Plant (Nizhni Novgorod) was actively expanding its
equipment fleet in 2008, having invested more than USD 9.5 mln. into
Engel molding machines.
