Worldwide ethylene producers increased ethylene output capacity 7 million tpy in 2008, according to Oil and Gas Journal’s recent
survey.
Mainly due to new plants in the Middle East that growth was a
record one compared to 2007 when output went up by 2 million tpy, as
well as to 2006 when it increased only 245.000 tpy. | | On January 1, 2009, the global ethylene output was at the level of 126.7 million tpy, having increased 6% from 119.6 million tpy.
It is planned to launch 10 million tpy output capacities in 2009;
although the global economic recession and the over-supply will most
likely make that figure far lower. In the last-year’s survey, ethylene
producers reported on 17 million tpy increase, as a result, the actual
growth was 10 million tpy less. | Source: Oil and Gas Journal
