(Plastics News) -- In a move towards strategic growth, LyondellBasell is moving ahead with strategic growth, adding another 320,000 tons of HDPE capacity in Europe. Output from the Munchsmunster, Germany plant is even better than current bi-modal material. The German facility uses its Hostalen Advanced Cascade Process (ACP) for production of the high-density polyethylene (HDPE). This new plant joins current LyondellBasell plastics plants in Frankfurt and Wesseling, Germany, and a joint venture in Plock, Poland. "Multimodal HDPE grades offer significant cost savings through processability improvements, downgauging and energy savings," explained Tassilo Bader, the company's VP for polyethylene and polyolefins Solutions - Europe, Asia and international.
According to MRC data, LyondellBasell's share in the Russian market in 2008 was 1.4% in polyethylene market (including HDPE - 2.5%, LDPE - 0.3%), 4.1% in polypropylene market (including block copolymers - 9.5%). Annual sales growth in Russia, during the recent 5 years was 27% in PE and 88% in PP.
