Sabic may seek chemicals acquisitions

(Bloomberg) -- Saudi Basic Industries Corp. is interested in partnerships and acquisitions as well as entering business areas like nylon, polyurethane and synthetic rubber, Handelsblatt said, citing Chief Executive Officer Mohamed al- Mady.

While the CEO doesn't rule out further acquisitions in the petrochemical sector, Sabic could be hindered by antitrust rules because of the Riyadh-based company's size in that area, the German newspaper said, citing an interview with al-Mady.

You can discuss that with Geert Drummen, Sabic's CEO in Eastern Europe at "Russian Polymers Summit - 2010" international conference organized by ICIS and MRC. For more information please refer to http://www.polymersummit.ru/ Summit official web page.

P&G joins forces to commercialize a PP preform for stretch blow molding

(PackWorld) -- P&G teams up with an innovative resin supplier and a specialist in high-performance packaging to commercialize a PP preform for stretch blow molding.

A breakthrough in injection stretch blow molding technology (ISBM) lies behind the recent introduction of a new laundry product from Procter & Gamble. Introduced first in Europe under the P&G Ariel brand and a few months later in the U.S. under the P&G Tide brand, the new bottles are significant because they're stretch blow molded from preforms that are injection molded from polypropylene, a resin not usually associated with reheating and blowing preforms. Previously, preforms used in ISBM have almost always been made of PET.

You can discuss that with P&G top management at "Russian Polymer Summit - 2010" international conference organized by ICIS and MRC. For more information please refer to http://www.polymersummit.ru/ official Summit web page.

Arkema collaborates with Purac in development of a new line of block copolymers

(Chemie.de) -- Purac and Arkema announce their collaboration in functional Lactide-based block copolymers. These block copolymers will enhance the thermo-mechanical and physical properties of many biobased polymers like Poly Lactic Acid (PLA), resulting in a wider range of applications opportunities. These copolymers are produced by combining Arkema's organic catalysis ring-opening polymerisation technology with Purac's L- and D-Lactide monomers

The combined know-how of Purac and Arkema will allow the development of this new range of high purity functional block copolymers containing PLA segments. This new product improves the specific functional properties, such as thermal resistance and impact strength in various polymers. PLA is a strongly growing biobased thermoplastic polymer which is widely used in packaging, textile and other consumer goods.
