NKID to lay a pipeline at Nayachar PCPIR

(plastemart) -- New Kolkata International Development (NKID) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Air Liquide of France for laying a pipeline in the proposed Petrochemicals, Chemicals and Petroleum Investment Region (PCPIR) at Nayachar. Air Liquide will create the industrial gas infrastructure for the PCPIR. NKID happens to be a special purpose vehicle promoted by the Salim group of Indonesia and Prasoon Mukherjee of Universal Success.

The PCPIR will be spread over 250 sq kms (62,000 acres) according to the central government norms. Of this, Haldia Petrochemicals, IOC and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation will account for about 49,000 acres. All environmental related studies would be completed and submitted to the Pollution Control Board by end of month.

(plastemart) -- Mitsui Chemicals has restarted its naphtha cracker in Chiba, shut due to mechanical problems, since August 26. The naphtha cracker, with capacity to produce 553.000 tpa of ethylene has been shut due to problem with equipment.

(prw) -- The Treofan Group, one of the world's leading makers of high-performance BOPP films, is considering the sale of Treofan Benelux, which owns a production site in Liege, Belgium, with some 100 employees. Contacts with a number of potential investors are at an advanced stage and negotiations could be concluded within the next few months.

⌠Our strategy is to focus on a smaller range of specialty BOPP films, especially in the areas of tobacco, electronics and in-mould labels, said Carlo Ranucci, the CEO of the Treofan Group. ⌠With Treofan Benelux mainly producing other types of films, the sale is a logical step.

Treofan intends to maintain close ties with the Belgian operation once the envisaged transaction is completed. A tolling' agreement would enable the Liege site to produce up to 20,000 tons of BOPP films for Treofan per annum. Treofan would also cede some distribution rights for Treofan's products to the new Belgian entity.

(plastemart) -- Formosa Petrochemicals' No. 2 plant with a capacity to produce 1.035 mln tpa of ethylene, is scheduled to halt production for 40 to 45 days. As a result, the Taiwanese major will not buy any naphtha for delivery in H1-October. Formosa has three naphtha-processing plants with a combined annual capacity of 2.935 mln tons of ethylene.

(Bloomberg) -- Saudi Basic Industries Corp. is interested in partnerships and acquisitions as well as entering business areas like nylon, polyurethane and synthetic rubber, Handelsblatt said, citing Chief Executive Officer Mohamed al- Mady.

While the CEO doesn't rule out further acquisitions in the petrochemical sector, Sabic could be hindered by antitrust rules because of the Riyadh-based company's size in that area, the German newspaper said, citing an interview with al-Mady.
