Advanced Petrochemical and Satorp sign propylene supply deal

(Fibre2fashion) -- Advanced Petrochemical Company (Advanced) and Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (Satorp) signed on a sales agreeent for the supply of 50 thousand metric tons per year of propylene (polymer) from Satorp Refinery (to be built) in Jubail Industrial City (2) to Advanced.

Under this agreement, Satorp will provide Advanced with 50 thousand metric tons of propylene annually for an initial period of three years and it will be renewed on an annual basis. And it is expected to commence supply starting from January 1, 2014 and Satorp will supply propylene by a pipeline from Jubail (2) to Jubail (1).

This agreement will provide additional supplies of propylene to Advanced which will contribute to the increase of production of polypropylene and thereby increase the revenues from the sale of Polypropylene.

Under this Convention, both parties can consider the possibility of supplying additional quantities of propylene for longer periods in the future.

Brazilian petrochemical company sealed new deal with Tecnaro GmbH

(chemmonitor) -- The Burgweg-headquartered German company Tecnaro GmbH sealed a deal with a Brazilian petrochemical producer headquartered in Sao Paulo, Braskem S.A.

Braskem manufactures biopolymers for green polyethylene (PE) applications production.

Due to the agreement, Brazilian producer will supply Tecnaro with green PE made from sugarcane ethanol for compounds production. Tecnaro's compound can be made by thermoforming, injection molding and extrusion.

The cooperation between the companies is mutually beneficial for both parties.

The companies intend to develop the range of products made from renewable polyethylene or green PE.

ABS unit to go on stream in S Arabia in Q4, 2014

(chemmonitor) -- Spanish construction and engineering company headquartered in Madrid, Tecnicas Reunidas, SA and the Saudi Arabia-based Arabian Petrochemical Co (Petrokemya) signed a contract.

Due to the contract, which is assessed at SAR 2.1 billion (USD 555 million), the parties are predicted to put up a new facility in S Arabia.It will be an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) unit at Jubail site.


ABS's light weight and ability to be injection molded and extruded make it useful in manufacturing products such as drain-waste-vent (DWV) pipe systems, musical instruments (recorders, plastic clarinets, and piano movements), golf club heads (due to its good shock absorbance), automotive trim components, automotive bumper bars, medical devices for blood access, enclosures for electrical and electronic assemblies, protective headgear, whitewater canoes, buffer edging for furniture and joinery panels, luggage and protective carrying cases, small kitchen appliances, and toys, including Lego bricks.

Formosa Petrochemical said year-to-date poor sales

(reuters)-- Formosa Petrochemical Corp. Chairman Chen Bao-lang said Thursday that year-to-date sales were weaker than expected due to a slow recovery in the global economy.

The company expects this year's ethylene and propylene output to rise 20% to 3.025 million metric tons and 2.409 million tons, respectively, Mr. Chen said said at a shareholders' meeting.

Formosa Petrochemical will also continue to cut production costs and enhance competitiveness, he said.

Japan May ethylene output down year on year

(Reuters) - Japanese ethylene production fell 11.0 percent in May from the same month a year earlier to 492,200 tonnes, data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed on Monday.

Ethylene, made from naphtha, is a basic feedstock for petrochemicals that are processed into products such as plastics.

Following is a table of naphtha output volume in thousand tonnes, month-on-month and year-on-year percentage changes and the number of naphtha crackers shut during the month, according to the data.
