Russian producers to press imported LLDPE

August 05/2009

MOSCOW (MRC) – Russian polyethylene producers plan to resume production of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) in August – MRC reporting. Nizhnekamskneftekhim plans to start LLDPE production later this month. Kazanorgsyntez will resume LLDPE shipments in the second half of August.

This month, Russian producers can supply over 4 kt of LLDPE to the domestic market, thus pressing more expensive European and South Korean material in the stretch films sector.

European butene-based LLDPE became on average EUR20-30/mt more expensive; prices for hexene-based grades went up by EUR10-15/mt. Prices for South Korean LLDPE increased on average USD30-50/mt.

The LLDPE market is the only one that has been demonstrating positive consumption growth rates, this year. During the seven months, overall LLDPE consumption exceeded 58 kt.
