Russian polyethylene processing capacities increased 0.5 million MT in 2008

August 07/2009

MOSCOW (MRC) – Despite the crisis, Russian polyethylene processing capacities increased 0.5 million mt in 2008. Russian PE converters kept on investing into equipment, and in 2008 they imported 618 processing lines with overall output capacity at the level of 520 kt – MRC’s analysts reporting.

Before the crisis investments into polymers processing had been increasing on average by 28% annually. Presumably, investments into PE processing capacities will be at the minimal level in 2009.

However, by 2011 they might move at the level of 2004; afterwards, the new wave of humble growth will be within the range of 11-12% a year.
