LDPE consumption dropped by 43% in Russia

August 10/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) – LDPE consumption dropped by 43% in the first half of the year and moved at 181.39 kt – MRC reporting. Therewith, LDPE consumption decreased nearly two times compared to the same period, last year.

Buying activity became stringer in the film-grade LDPE market in June. The forthcoming shutdown of facilities in Tomsk and Kazan was the key reason of the increasing demand for film-grade material.

Tomskneftekhim idled its LDPE unit for the scheduled repair at the end of July. This year, the company has produced 128.2 kt of material. Despite the fact that Tomskneftekhim’s share in the overall LDPE output is at the level of 40%, the scheduled repair is not to affect the market balance.

The forthcoming suspension of Kazanorgsyntez’s facilities might somehow adjust the market situation, as MRC’s analysts were informed.
