Stavrolen increases polypropylene output facilities

August 11/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) – Stavrolen launched the second polypropylene (PP) plant at the beginning of August. Overall output capacity moved at the level of 120 kta – according to MRC. The company will apply Dow Chemical’s Unipol PP technology.

The PP unit was idled in Budennovsk because of the explosion in April 2008. Production was resumed this February. At the beginning of August, the company launched the second PP line.

Reference: Construction of the PP unit was started at Stavrolen in 1986. However, all works were suspended in 1995 due to lack of funds. To accomplish the project, in July 2004, LUKOIL Group bought 87.42% of Stavropolpolymerproduct’s shares from Moscow Industrial & Trading Integration and Development Center, having paid USD 32 million. Construction was resumed in January 2005. The PP unit was launched on March 5, 2007.
