August, 17 (Bloomberg) -- Formosa Petrochemical Corp., Taiwan’s only publicly traded oil refiner, restarted a gasoline- making unit on Aug. 15 after fixing a mechanical fault.
The 84,000 barrel-a-day plant, known as a residual fluid catalytic cracker, reached full capacity on Aug. 16, Lin Keh- yen, a spokesman, said from Taipei today. The unit was shut on Aug. 3.
The company operates two such facilities, which convert heavier refined products such as residual fuel into higher- valued products including gasoline. Formosa Petrochemical, based in Mailiao, western Taiwan, has a daily capacity of 540,000 barrels of crude oil.
Some shipments for August will be delayed and customers have agreed to the change in schedule, Lin said, without giving details. The shutdown will reduce Formosa Petrochemical’s September gasoline sales by two cargoes, or about 500,000 barrels, he said on Aug. 12.
