Polyethylene consumption down 21% in Russia

August 27/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) – Consumption of polyethylene (PE) went down by 21% during January-July in Russia, compared to the same period last year – according to MRC’s analysts. Year-to-date that figure has moved at 694.27 kt

TThe LDPE (low-density polyethylene) market demonstrated the sharpest reduction in buying activity (by 44%). The situation in the film-grade  LDPE market somewhat improved early in August. Increase in film-grade feedstock sales took place because converters were replenishing their stocks before suspension of the largest Russian producers for scheduled maintenance.

HDPE (high-density polyethylene) consumption fell by 15%. Imports decreased nearly two times. There was lack of pipe-grade feedstock in the market.

LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene) demand went up by 7%. Nizhnekamskneftekhim’s linear feedstock was available in the market in July.
