Ineos says halts French petrochemical plant

September 07/2009
LONDON, Sept 7 (Reuters) - British petrochemicals company Ineos [INEOSP.UL] said on Monday it shut the petrochemicals facility at its Lavera plant in France following a steam leak at the weekend.

"At 15:10 on Saturday 5th September a leak on a steam pipe at the site resulted in the closure of one of its cracker units. All related production units have been safely shut down following this incident," the company said in a statement.

"Work on the affected plant has started, however there is no timetable for restart available at this time."

The oil refining facility of the Lavera plant has not been affected by the leak and it is operating normally, the company said. There were no injuries and no environmental impact.
