MOSCOW (MRC) - Despite a number of negative factors, imports of suspension polyvinyl chloride (SPVC) in Ukraine increased to 19,400 tonnes in January - March of this year, up 13% compared to the same period of 2014, as per MRC DataScope.
March SPVC imports to Ukraine dropped to 5,100 tonnes, compared with 6,200 tonnes in February 2015. Nevertheless, in spite of the time factor (long holidays in January) and a severe recession in the economy, the Ukrainian companies in the current year continued to buy quite high SPVC purchases in foreign markets.
Ukraine's SPVC imports over the first three months of the year was 19,400 tonnes, compared with 17,100 tonnes year on year. The main increase in SPVC imports occurred for supplies from Europe. Structure of PVC imports in Ukraine over the reported period was as follows.
March imports of US PVC slightly decreased to 220 tonnes, compared to 3,200 tonnes a month earlier. Such a serious decline in the supply of North American PVC resulted from high export prices in comparison with European producers. Total imports of US resin into the country dropped to 6,900 tonnes in January-March 2015, compared with 11,200 tonnes year on year.
March imports of PVC increased to 3,500 tonnes, compared to 1,600 tonnes in February on the growing supplies from Poland. Total imports of European SPVC were 8,800 tonnes in the first three months of the year, compared with 5,700 tonnes year on year. Peak supply of SPVC in Russia took place in February, with a little more than 1,400 tonnes delivered, in March this figure dropped to 1,300 tonnes.
