MOSCOW (MRC) -- Imports of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) into the Russian market decreased by 27% from January to May 2015 and totalled 10,600 tonnes, according to MRC DataScope report.
The extrusion ABS sector, which imports slumped by 62% from January to May and were 940 tonnes, accounted for the greatest fall of the total imports. Shipments of imported injection moulding ABS dropped by 20% to 9,600 tonnes.
Electronics producers with a worldwide reputation are the largest consumers of imported ABS in Russia. LG Electronics RUS remained the leader in import shipments. Imports of ABS for the production of electrical equipment and household appliances totalled less than 10,000 tonnes from January to May 2015, down by 28% year on year.
Slightly over 400 tonnes were imported for the production of car parts over the stated period, whereas this figure was 340 tonnes from January to May 2014.
The Russian car industry mainly uses domestic ABS, produced by Plastik, Uzlovaya and Nizhnekamskneftekhim.
As reported earlier, AvtoVAZ, Russia's largest car producer, will go on production vacations in the last week of July and the first two weeks of August, the head of the autoconcern Bo Andersson told reporters. Previously, the plant did not operate in the New Year holidays - from 1 to 19 January and in the May holidays - from 1 to 12 May.
