MOSCOW (MRC) -- Imports of polypropylene (PP) into Kazakhstan remained virtually at the level of 2014 over the first five months of 2015 and totalled about 6,000 tonnes. Exports slumped by 43% to 6,300 tonnes, reported MRC analysts.
According to the Customs Control Committee of the Ministry of Finance, May PP imports was less than 700 tonnes, whereas the April figure was 900 tonnes. Thus, the overall PP imports to the domestic market reached 6,000 tonnes from January to May 2015, which is comparable to the last year's figure.
Russian producers are the main PP suppliers to Kazakhstan (they account for about 67% of the total shipments over the stated period). South Korea is the second largest supplier of polymer to the local market.
PP exports from Kazakhstan fell to 215 tonnes in May (excluding shipments to Russia, 3,200 tonnes were shipped to Russia over the first four months of the year) versus 1,200 tonnes a month earlier. Overall, "Company Neftekhim LTD", the local PP producer, shipped to foreign markets 6,300 tonnes over the first five months of 2015 versus 11,000 tonnes a year earlier.
