MOSCOW (MRC) -- Imports of high density polyethylene (HDPE) into Kazakhstan increased over the first five months of 2015 by 37% year on year and totalled 34,500 tonnes, reported MRC analysts.
May HDPE imports to Kazakhstan exceeded 6,100 tonnes under the pressure of seasonal factors from 4,300 tonnes a month earlier. Russian pipe grade HDPE accounted for the main increase in shipments. The overall HDPE imports rose to 34,500 tonnes from January to May 2015 versus 25,100 tonnes over the same period a year earlier. Local pipes producers accounted for the main increase in polyethylene (PE) imports.
The HDPE consumption structure by processing sectors looks the following way.
Pipe grade PE accounted for more than 85% of the total consumption. The film grade PE sector with the share of about 10% was the second largest consumer.
If the geography of suppliers is considered, Russian HDPE producers remained the key suppliers to the local market. Their share grew to 81% in the total shipments over the stated period. Producers from South Korea and Uzbekistan occupied the second and third places in PE shipments to the local market.
