MOSCOW (MRC) - Imports of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) in Russia decreased to 125,100 tonnes in the first eight months of this year, down 12% year on year. The greatest decrease in imports occurred for the producers of overall rotomoulded products, according to MRC DataScope.
August LLDPE imports into the country increased to 20,000 tonnes, compared with 16,900 tonnes in July because of stronger supply of PE for rotational moulding products and for the film extrusion. Total LLDPE imports into Russia were 125,100 tonnes in January - August 2015, compared with 141,500 tonnes year on year. Such a serious decline in imports of this type of polyethylene resulted from reduced demand in some sectors of consumption and the growth of domestic production, in particular by Nizhnekamskneftekhim.
Structure of LLDPE supply over the reported period looked as follows. August imports of film LLDPE into the country grew to 16,100 tonnes, compared with 13,500 tonnes in July. The main increase occurred for the European polyethylene from local producers of multilayer films.
Total imports of film LLDPE in Russia over the reported period exceeded a little more than 105,100 tonnes, compared with 122,300 tonnes year on year. The decline in LLDPE imports was seen from the producers of all types of films: irrigated stretch films, multi-layer, heat-shrinkable, etc.
August imports of linear PE for the production of overall rotomoulded products seasonally rose to 2,100 tonnes against 1.5 tonnes in July.
Total imports of LLDPE for overall products by rotational moulding production in January-August significantly decreased to 6,700 tonnes, compared with 8,500 tonnes year on year. The main suppliers of this type of LLDPE into Russia were producers from Asia.
Imports of LLDPE to other sectors of consumption last month was about 1,800 tonnes. Total imports of LLDPE into other sectors increased to 13,200 tonnes in the first eight months of the year, compared with 10,700 tonnes year on year because of an increase in demand from the local producers of laminated paper, producers of cable products and polyethylene compositions.
