MOSCOW (MRC) - Ukraine's market of polycarbonate (PC) decreased by 30% to 2,100 tonnes in January-October 2015 compared to the same period last year, according to MRC ScanPlast.
One reason for the decrease in demand and thus imports, is that some converters suspended their work or have found a polymeric substitutes in the more affordable price range. Bayer supplies to Ukraine in January-October declined by 11% and amounted to about 1,000 tonnes. Today the company is a leader in PC supply to Ukraine. The price of a general purpose injection moulding PC granules from Bayer starts from EUR3,700/tonne, including VAT and delivery to the Central region to Ukraine.
The second in volume supplier into the country is Sabic Innovative Plastics. During the reporting period, the producer has shipped into Ukraine 876 tonnes of PC granules. Price for injection moulding PC was at EUR3,300/tonne, including VAT and delivery to the Central Ukraine.
The construction season during which there was a demand for PC sheets, came to an end. In this regard, the delivery of the extrusion material in November-December, will continue to decline. In total, during the reporting period, this segment decreased by 60% and amounted to 289 tonnes.
As for the segment of bottle grade PC granules in January-October demand for polycarbonate decreased by 18% and amounted to 506 tonnes. Demand for injection moulding PC granules in Ukraine fell by 22% compared with the previous year and amounted to about 1,300 tonnes.
Currently this segment is stagnating. Amid the economic crisis only the major converters can survive including working for export.
