MOSCOW (MRC) -- January imports of suspension polyvinyl chloride (SPVC) into Ukraine decreased by 39% from December 2015, totalling 4,100 tonnes, according to MRC DataScope report.
Last month's SPVC imports to Ukraine slumped to 4,100 tonnes under the pressure of seasonal factors from 6,800 tonnes, local producers of shaped and linear articles accounted for the main decrease in demand. Some local converters completely refused from the resin purchasing in January on the back of the long New Year holidays and almost complete absence of demand for finished products.
The structure of SPVC imports into Ukraine by countries-suppliers looked the following way over the stated period.
January SPVC imports from the US remained at the level of December 2015 and were slightly over 2,000 tonnes. Such high imports of North American resin were caused by the desire of some window profiles producers to build up cheap additional inventories of material in anticipation of a seasonal increase in demand for finished products. US prices are traditionally the lowest export prices in November - December.
Last month's shipments of European PVC to the Ukrainian market totalled 1,700 tonnes versus 3,700 tonnes in December, both local producers of shaped and linear articles and of plasticized PVC compounds reduced their purchasing.
January SPVC imports from Russia dropped to 340 tonnes from 960 tonnes a month earlier. Despite the fact that Russian producers had the lowest prices last month in comparison with producers from Europe and the US, in most cases Ukrainian companies did not form additional inventories. The problems with the freight of road transportation also affected the resin procurement in Russia.
