MOSCOW (MRC) -- Asahi Glass Co. has announced that subsidiary Asahimas Chemical has shipped the first polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from an expansion of its Cilegon, Indonesia, facility, as per Apic-online.
The project, costing approximately USD400-million, in-creased caustic soda capacity to 700,000 t/y from 500,000 t/y, doubled vinyl chloride monomer capacity to 800,000 t/y from 400,000 t/y and increased PVC capacity to 550,000 t/y from 300,000 t/y.
Asahi Glass, which holds a 52.5% interest in Asahimas Chemical, said commercial production will be launched during the first quarter of this year.
Other partners in the venture are Rodamas (18%), Ableman Finance (18%) and Mitsubishi Corp. (11.5%).
As MRC informed earlier, in March 2015, Asahi Glass Co Ltd (AGC) announced that it would increase the production capacity of PVC facility at Phu My Plastics & Chemicals Co Ltd (PMPC), AGC’s subsidiary engaged in PVC business in Vietnam. PMPC’s PVC production capacity will be increased by 50% to 150,000 tonnes from the current 100,000 tonnes per year, which will make the Asahi Glass Group’s total PVC production in Southeast Asia 700,000 tonnes per year. The operation is scheduled to commence at the beginning of 2016.
