MOSCOW (MRC) -- Last year's overall imports of unmixed polyvinyl chloride (PVC) into Belarus decreased by 35%, totalling 25,700 tonnes, according to MRC DataScope report.
According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, December imports of PVC to Belarus rose to 2,000 tonnes from 702 tonnes a month earlier. The growth of the resin purchasing last month of 2015 was caused by the desire of some converters to build up additional inventories of cheap material. Russian material accounted for the bulk of purchases.
In general, according to the National Statistics Committee of Belarus, demand for PVC from local converters subsided to 25,700 tonnes from January to December 2015 versus 39,200 tonnes a year earlier.
Weaker demand for unmixed PVC from local converters was caused by the fall of the finished products sales both in the domestic market - over 25% and in foreign markets - 50% (only sales of shaped and linear articles decreased to 12,100 tonnes from 23,700 tonnes a year earlier).
Russian producers became the key PVC suppliers to the local market over the stated period. Their share grew to 71% last year, the total volume of shipments was 18,300 tonnes. The Polish producer Anwil with a total of 3,800 tonnes of resin was the second largest supplier.
