MOSCOW (MRC) - Imports of polypropylene (PP) into Kazakhstan increased to about 5,900 tonnes in January-March 2016, up 24% compared with the same time a year earlier, according to MRC analysts.
March PP imports into Kazakhstan seasonally increased to 2,500 tonnes, compared with 1,600 tonnes in February. The main increase in PP imports was provided by local producers of PP bags. In general, January - March PP imports into the country increased to 5,900 tonnes against 4,800 tonnes year on year.
Structure of PP imports over the reported period was as follows.
March imports of homopolymer PP into Kazakhstan were about 2,100 tonnes, compared with 1,500 tonnes in February 2016. Local producers of PP bags increased their purchases of PP, with the main increase in the supply occurred for Russian producers. Imports of homopolymer PP into the country exceeded 3,700 tonnes in January-March versus 3,000 tonnes a year earlier.
Purchases of propylene copolymers by local companies in March were reduced to 440 tonnes compared to 523 tonnes a month earlier because local producers of PP pressure pipes reduced the volumes of purchases. Total imports of propylene copolymers in to the country were about 1,400 tonnes in January-march 2016 compared with 1,200 tonnes year on year.
