Polystyrene imports down 41% in Russia

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-August, polystyrene (PS) imports in Russia decreased 41% (down to 80.52 kt), compared to the same period last year – MRC’s analysts reporting.

EPS imports dropped by 46%. There was a serious decrease in imports of EPS produced by Loyal and BASF, by 67% and 33%, respectively. In August, Russian converters and traders cut down purchases of LG Chem’s material by more than two times, compared to July. Contrariwise, supply of Wuxi’s EPS went up by nearly four times and moved at the pre-crisis level.

HIPS imports decreased 40% during January-August. 

ABS supply went down by 40% as well; that decrease affected nearly all producers apart from Sabic. Imports of Sabic’s ABS increased 6%. 

GPPS imports fell by 38%, SAN – by 2%, SBS – by 23%.
