Linear polyethylene consumption up 7% in Russia

September 25/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) – Over the course of the seven months of 2009, consumption of linear polyethylene (LLDPE) increased 7%, compared to the same period of the previous year, and moved at 65.1 kt.
Analysts expect rapid growth of sales of Nizhenkamskneftekhim’s material, which might press similar imported grades very soon. In July, the company produced nearly 12 kt of LLDPE, which was 20% more than overall imports in that month.

Despite of the overall growth of LLDPE output in Nizhnekamskneftekhim and Kazan, imports have not begun to decrease sharply this year. Over the course of January-August, LLDPE imports went down only by 1%, whereas LDPE imports decreased 26% during that time, and those of HDPE – by 43%.
The work of Russian stretch-film producers instills optimism. They keep on increasing output volumes actively, in the face of overall slump in polymers processing. Special attention should be paid to the three largest players in this market: Regent-stretch, Lava and Nova Roll.
