China imposes anti-dumping tax on PVC imports

October 05/2009
October, 5 ( -- China"s Ministry of Commerce recently announced that its anti-dumping tax on polyvinyl chloride imported from Taiwan, the U.S., South Korea, Japan and Russia will remain in place for another five years, sources reported.

The anti-dumping tax on PVC was first imposed five years ago. An investigation begun last year determined that there was still a need for a tax to protect domestic producers from economic harm.
Chemical Market Associates Inc, a research group providing market and business advisory services for the chemical industry, said global demand for PVC fell 8% last year and will continue to fall this year, but that production capacity continues to expand, especially in China. Oversupply could hit 4 million tons by 2014, said the firm, even if production in the U.S. is scaled back and demand fuelled by rapid construction in China continues.
