Caustic soda output and consumption down in Russia

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-August, output of caustic soda in Russia went down by 16%, compared to the same period last year, and moved at 729 kt. Caustic (Sterlitamak) demonstrated the most serious decrease in output volumes (by 24%).

austic sod exports dropped slightly, by 3%. Over 50% of exports of liquid caustic soda belonged to feedstock produced by Caustic, Volgograd. At the same time, exports of rigid caustic soda increased 44%, where leading positions also belonged to Caustic, Volgograd.

Imports of caustic soda in Russia are moving toward pre-recession volumes; in August, they reached this years high at the level of 1.68 kt according to MRCs analysts.
In September, the Government of the Russian Federation imposed temporary import duty on rigid caustic soda in the amount of 15% of customs value but not less than EUR 0,07 for 1 kr, for a period of 9 months.
