Polystyrene consumption down 27% in Russia

MOSCOW (MRC) Over the course of January-August, polystyrene consumption in Russia went down by 27%, compared to the same period last year, and moved at 204.82 kt MRCs analysts reporting.

Decrease in demand for high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) and general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) turned out to be minimal as compared with other polystyrene types (by 18%).
Consumption of expanded polystyrene (EPS) decreased 38%. EPS imports dropped by 46% and moved at 42.61 kt. The maximum decrease in imports was observed in the construction sector.

HIPS and GPPS exports have hiked by 56% since the beginning of the year. The highest increase in exports referred to feedstock used to produce packaging. This year, Nizhnekamskneftekhim has pushed up exports by 39% in that sector.
Plastik (Uzlovaya) resumed production of ABS in August. However, output was minor: in August, the plant produced 0.75 kt of material.
