Ineos to shut Runcorn PVC plant

October, 12 ( -- Ineos Compounds announced plans to close its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compounds business in Runcorn.

It said production from the Cheshire plant would be moved to its manufacturing operation at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. It did not say how many jobs would go.

INEOS Compounds general manager Steve Reynolds said: Our strategy to pursue the consolidation of our production network is being driven by a focus on underpinning our competitiveness and product offering whilst ensuring we are well placed to respond to ongoing changes in our markets, particularly in the building, construction and automotive sectors.

The privately-owned company is also in discussions with employee representatives about closing its facility at Mourmelon-Le-Petit in Marne, France.

 PVC - 4.5%;

 polyethylene - 1.9%

 polystyrene 0.9%.
