Imports of Chinese K=70 PVC resumed in Russia

October 12/2009
Scheduled maintenance at Sayanskkhimplast and Caustic (Sterlitamak) resulted in lack of K=70 resin in the Russian market. Imports of Chinese material will be resumed within the nearest fortnight; however, it is very much unlikely that feedstock shortage will be reduced seriously.

During the recent years, Russian producers have been cutting down production of K=70 PVC and increasing output of K=64 and K=67 resin. The reason is the growing capacity of the profiles market and its high growth rates. If in 2007 overall output of K=70 resin in Russia exceeded 190 kt, then production of that material moved at a bit more than 47 kt during the first half of this year.

In September, imports of K=70 resin moved at about 1.7 kt. Many Russian converters cannot afford buying European resin due to high prices; moreover, there is lack of that material in Europe, as well.

Last week, Chinas Xinjiang Tianye resumed production of K=70 resin. Shipments of that producers material are expectedly to start next week.
