Polyethylene output up 9% in Russia

October 14/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-August, polyethylene output went up by 9%, compared to the same period last year, and moved at 920.21 kt – according to MRC’s analysts.

During the reporting period, LDPE production remained at the level of the previous year at 437.99 kt. Buying activity in the film-grade LDPE market became stronger in August. Exports of film-grade feedstock have increased more than three times, this year. Tomskneftekhim seriously increased exports of LDPE used to produce general-purpose films. Exports of Tomskneftekhim’s 15803-020 grade moved at 115.4 kt after the eight months of the year.

HDPE output hiked by 12%; however, there was still lack of material in the markets of pipe and film grade HDPE.
Strong seasonal demand for pipe-grade HDPE and scheduled maintenance at some production units would only aggravate the market situation. Imports of pipe-grade material were limited in view of high PE prices in Europe and Asia. That index went down by 68% in January-August.
