Polypropylene imports down 20% in Ukraine

October 28/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-September, polypropylene (PP) imports in Ukraine dropped by 20% (to 47.87 kt), as compared with the same period last year according to MRC.

Decrease in prices in Europe and Asia did not result in stronger buying activity in the Ukrainian market. Many converters kept on buying minimally required feedstock volumes awaiting further decrease in prices in the Ukrainian market.

PP-homo imports fell by 20%. Maximum volumes of imports belonged to material from the Czech Republic, Russia and Poland: 24%, 23% and 16%, respectively.

PP-impact imports decreased 19%. Borealis material was not supplied in September. The share of that producers PP was at the level of 27% of overall PP-impact imports.
In spite of the fact that imports dropped by all PP types, PP-random turned out to be an exception. PP-random imports went up by 26%. The highest increase in demand in September, compared to August, was recorded in the injection moulding sector (more than two times).
