Estimated polyethylene consumption down 16% in Russia

October 30/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-September, estimated polyethylene (PE) consumption in Russia dropped by 16% and moved at 972.2 kt, as compared with the same period last year according to MRC.

LDPE demand went down by 31%. Seasonal decrease in demand and high prices for film-grade feedstock (particularly, for the 158th and the 153rd grades) led to a serious drop in buying activity.

HDPE consumption went down by 12%, and moved at 514.41 kt. Demand for pipe-grade HDPE became much weaker in view of high prices. At the same time, imports of pipe-grade material went up by 67%, compared to August. Over a half of pipe-grade HDPE imports belonged to Korea Petrochemicals P600BL grade.

Estimated LLDPE consumption went up by 33%. LLDPE output has increased four times this year. Overall LLDPE output volumes were pushed up by production of LLDPE at Nizhnekamskneftekhim. The share of that companys material is at the level of 76% of overall LLDPE output.
