Estimated polystyrene consumption down 26% in Russia

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-September, estimated polystyrene (PS) consumption went down by 26% in Russia, as compared with the same period last year, and moved at 239.31 kt Ц according to MRC.

Consumption of high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) and general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) dropped by 17%. Output volumes decreased only 3%. At the same time, some Russian producers were increasing output. Nizhnekamskneftekhim pushed up output volumes by 11%. The share of that producer is 70% of overall HIPS/GPPS output. Imports went down by 37%. The most serious decrease was recorded in the construction sector (by 48%).

EPS demand dropped by 43%. Over the course of the nine months, that figure moved at 69.14 kt.

Estimated ABS consumption went down by 45%. ABS production at Plastik, Uzlovaya, was still scarce and constituted only 0.46 kt.
