Russian producers to increase production of pipe-grade polypropylene

November 12/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) Strong demand for pipe-grade polypropylene has been met by imports by more than 60% this year. Nizhnekamskneftekhim and Tomskneftekhim suspended production of PP-random in summer.

In summer, lack of pipe grades was covered by growing imports. This year, apart from the popular Borealiss RA130E grade, Russian companies have begun to import grades of other European producers. There appeared PP-random grades of LyondellBasell and Sabic (Hostalen PP H5416 and Vestolen P9421, respectively). In October, overall imports of pipe-grade PP moved at 1.5 kt in Russia.

Tomskneftekhim resumed PP-random production in September. Output of the Russian producer exceeded 500 mt in October.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim is expectedly to resume production of pipe-grade PP at the end of November. Prices for Russian material vary within the range of RUB50.00052.000/mt, including VAT, FCA. In October, European feedstock was offered on average at EUR1.0101.050/mt, FCA.
