PVC imports up in Russia

November 19/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Russian companies continue to increase PVC imports and to expand the geography of supplying countries. The first suspension lots from Venezuela were delivered to the Russian market in October.

Lack of PVC in the Russian market in September October, as well as the shutdown of the two largest Russian producers for scheduled maintenance, resulted in a serious increase in imports. In September, overall PVC imports exceeded 30.2 kt; in October, that figure went over 32 kt.

Limited potential of Chinese producers and growing demand in the Russian market resulted in a wider geography of PVC supplying countries. Shin-Etsus resin appeared in the market in September; imports of Polish material were resumed. In October, imports of Pequivens resin (Venezuela) exceeded 1 kt; current prices for Venezuelan PVC vary within the range of USD900-920/mt, FOB.
Over the course of the first eight days of November, overall suspension imports exceeded 9 kt in Russia. Major volumes of imported material still belong to PVC producers from China, South Korea and North America. Prices for South Korean and North American suspension vary within the range of USD950-970/mt, CIF St. Petersburg, and USD910-930/mt, CIF St. Petersburg, respectively.
