Estimated PVC consumption down 30%

December 09/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-October, estimated PVC consumption went down by 30% in Russia, as compared with the previous year, and moved at 582.11 kt according to MRC.

There is seasonal decrease in demand for finished goods in some PVC consumption sectors. Many market players are going to cut down their stocks of finished goods in winter to minimize costs.

PVC-S output went down by 7%. Kaustik (Sterlitamak) and Plastcard suspended operations in October due to scheduled maintenance.

In October, PVC-S imports reached this years maximum (32.31 kt). Major volumes belonged to resin from China, South Korea, and the USA. The share of suspension imported from those countries was at the level of 84% of overall PVC-S imports in October. There appeared resin produced by Venezuelas Pequiven. Imports of Pequivens Vinilen 140 grade moved at 1.02 kt.
PVC-E consumption dropped by 32%. Suspension of the production at Usolyekhimprom pushed up imports of emulsion since Khimprom (Volgograd) was not able to meet PVC-E demand in the Russian market.
