KraussMaffei Berstorff develops innovative method for PE 100 pipes processing

December 10/2009
December 10 ( -- KraussMaffei Berstorff, a supplier of plastics extrusion machinery, has developed new engineering concept using the 36D single-screw extruder to process new polyolefins.

A material like PE 100 makes great demands on the extruder"s plasticizing performance. The engineering concepts of the 30D machines used to process PE 80, cannot be simply transferred to processing other polyolefins, because the high viscosity of these materials can result in a thermally inhomogeneous melt, producing pipe with an uneven inner surface.

With its 36D concept, KraussMaffei Berstorff presents an engineering solution that combines high output, outstanding thermal homogeneity and an optimal melt temperature ratio.

36D single-screw extruders are engineered to reliably eliminate thermal inhomogeneities. Timely and intensive mixing of already melted resin with still solid material during the plasticating process produces an optimal, thermally homogenous melt. At the same time, melt temperature is kept consistently low. The barrier mixing screw prevents separation of solids and melt.

KraussMaffei Berstorff has engineered its 36D extruders so that pipe manufacturers can rely on high specific throughput, high plasticizing performance and outstanding product quality Ц even when processing PE 100.

Through its Chinese subsidiary KraussMaffei Extrusion Technology, KraussMaffei Berstorff builds the most advanced 36D single-screw extruder generation in China, so that the company can deliver production systems fast and reliably to the Chinese market.
