Estimated PE consumption down 16% in Russia

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January Ц October, polyethylene (PE) consumption went down by 16% in Russia, compared to the same period last year, and moved at 1044.4 kt Ц according to MRC.

LDPE demand dropped by 32%. There is seasonal decrease in buying activity. Russian producers pushed up exports by more than two times. Shipments to the domestic market were limited in October; however, there was no lack of material in the market. During the reporting period, LDPE output remained at the level of the previous year Ц 535.89 kt.

Estimated HDPE consumption decreased 9%. Resumed operations at Kazanorgsyntez and the switch of Nizhnekamskneftekhim to HDPE production facilitated saturation of the Russian market. The most serious drop in imports was recorded in the pipe sector (-33%) in October

Converters were cutting down purchases to minimize stocks of material and finished goods in the run-up to winter.
