December, 15 (plasteurope.com) -- Starting in 2011, Braskem will be supplying 5,000 t/y of high-density polyethylene (HDPE)
made from renewable raw materials to Tetra Pak . The packaging group
wants to test the material’s suitability for the production of caps and
closures for beverage cartons.
Braskem is planning to start up a new industrial-scale PE facility for
this purpose at the end of 2010. The plant will use sugar cane to
manufacture the feedstock ethylene. The Brazilian company reports that
the initial volume of 5,000 t/y will account for just over 5% of Tetra
Pak’s entire HDPE demand.
