PVC-S imports down 57% in Russia

December 16/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January November, PVC-S imports went down by 57% (to 134.66 kt) in Russia, as compared with the same period last year according to MRC. This year, imports have been coming mainly from China, North America and South Korea.
In November, Russian companies imported record volumes of American resin (7.05) for the first time over the course of the ten recent years. Nearly half of that volume was Georgia Gulfs PVC-S.

In November, resin produced by Japans Toyo Vinyl and Mexicos Mexichem was available in the Russian market: 220 mt and 302 mt, respectively.

In December, many market players are going to cut down PVC purchases by 30-50%, compared to November, because of big purchase volumes made during October November when there was lack of material in the market.
Converters want to have minimal stocks of expensive raw materials and finished goods when entering the new year; and another reason is that many production units will be shut down for scheduled maintenance during the first half of January.
