Estimated PP consumption going down in Ukraine

December 22/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-November, estimated polypropylene (PP) consumption dropped by 7% in Ukraine, compared to the same period last year, and moved at 96.25 kt Ц MRC analysts reporting.

Buying activity is continuously getting weaker in the Ukrainian market. However, there was strong demand for injection moulding grades in November: both for PP-homo and propylene copolymers.

Exports keep growing. This year, exports have increased 24%. Over a half of exports is being shipped to Turkey. In November, Linos cut down PP-homo output by 5%, compared to October. Output is expectedly to be even lower in December.
PP-homo imports dropped by 22%. In November, imports of European feedstock were pressed by high prices. Imports from Russia went down by 35%, as compared with October. The main reason was the decrease in buying activity in the Ukrainian market and high PP prices in Russia.
PP-homo exports have increased three times, this year. Strong PP demand in Asia pushed up exports to that region by 49%.
