Polypropylene prices down in Asia

December 23/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Last week, polypropylene (PP) prices went down on average by USD5-10/mt, in Asia. Prices for injection moulding and raffia PP-homo moved toward USD1.1701.190/mt, CFR NE Asia.

Despite $20/mt rise in propylene prices, CFR NE Asia, and declarations of some Japanese, South Korean and Taiwanese producers about the necessity to shut down capacities for scheduled maintenance, buying activity is still weak continuously falling oil prices make converters keep low stocks.

In SE Asia, buying activity was even weaker in view of ASEAN countries intention to abolish customs duties within the commercial alliance commencing January 1, 2010, which made importers put off purchases till January.

PP-homo exports have increased three times, this year. Strong PP demand in Asia pushed up exports to that region by 49%.
