HDPE imports down 36% in Russia

December 24/2009
MOSCOW (MRC) -- Over the course of January-November, imports of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) dropped by 36% (down to 143.84 kt) in Russia, compared to the same period of the previous year – according to MRC analysts.

We assume converters’ demand will become stronger in the near future. Many companies are going to buy more feedstock on the threshold of the New Year’s holidays.

Imports of pipe-grade HDPE decreased more than 2.5 times (to 41.39 kt). Imports of feedstock produced by Korea Petrochemical and LyondellBasell decreased 3 and 2.5 times, respectively. This year, Russian companies have cut down imports of LyondellBasell’s Hostalen CRP 100 grade by nearly four times.

Imports of HDPE for extrusion coating have contrariwise increased more than 1.5 times (up to 53.59 kt). Imports of Borealis’s feedstock dropped by nearly two times.

This year, the share of Borcoat HE 3450 grade has moved at about 99% of overall HDPE imports used for the respective processing technology.
